Witness rules are state law. Read the signing rules.
Trust & Will says a will does not have to be notarized except in Louisiana, but a self-proving will does need a notary1. Self-proving speeds up probate because the witnesses do not have to testify later; see our signing rules guide.
Usually not. LawDepot notes that life insurance, retirement plan assets, annuities and property held in a trust pass by beneficiary designation or ownership, not through the will3. Check the beneficiary forms on those accounts separately.
Many people use a document service for a simple will. If your estate involves a business, a family member with special needs, property in several states or a likely dispute, speak to a lawyer licensed in your state. We do not refer anyone.
We do not earn anything from your quotes or sign-ups today. Every partner link is a plain link to the partner's own site, without a referral code. We may join partners' referral programs in the future, and this notice will say so before that changes.
Prices, plans and document terms belong to each service and can change. The service's own page is the final word on price, availability and terms.
WillWise Guide is not a law firm, does not give legal advice and does not match anyone with a lawyer. For advice about your situation, speak to a lawyer licensed in your state.
